Coach Kay Yow

My strength comes from my faith. And all of the organizations, the people that are raising money for research, give a lot of cancer patients hope because a new drug can be discovered anytime. I’m on drugs that were discovered in the 90s and 2000 — and they are extending my life. I think all of the qualities that are necessary to be a winner as a person, give you the opportunity to be a winner whether it’s on the court, or battling cancer, or in your job, or in relationships.
I have certainly learned about hard work, passion, sacrifice, commitment, dedication, ability to work with people…all of these qualities that helped make me a success…. But, the key quality to me has always been attitude. I think attitude definitely determines altitude. But attitude is a choice. We have zero control over what happens to us. Cancer is an example. I feel like I don’t know what I could have done to keep from getting it. But, the good news is that I have 100% control over how I choose to respond. And I’ve been fortunate that I’ve been able to learn how to deal with a lot of pressures on the court, and it’s definitely helped me. I feel like I’m a fighter, it’s a foe. I understand opponents. I understand foes. I understand it as a coach. I understand it as a Christian. My battle mode kicks in and I just become a fighter.

I sincerely appreciate your testimony.
I’m planning a “Irrepressible Hope,” (theme), Night of Fellowship (Christian gathering) for the women in my local area. I was looking for information on Hope (online) and came across your testimony. You gave me great insight on Hope. Thank you very much. I will be using your story during the course of that evening.
Thanks again & Keep sharing.
