In early April 2005 I had a dizzy spell at work. Just a few days later came a horrible headache which lasted more than a week, and my vision began to gray and disappear. I was constantly exhausted and weak. My doctor sent me for the first of what became a series of tests to determine what was wrong. In the middle of all this my employer let me go so I lost my job, health insurance and prescription coverage all in the same day. My life changed in an instant, and I was immediately afraid.
A local community health program recommended by my ophthalmologist helped me get new doctors. I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, something I really knew nothing about. My new neurologist assured me that there were medications available that would help slow down my MS. I was so grateful to know that there was something that could be done. I signed up with the Partnership for Prescription Assistance and was able to get those medications as well as others for nearly free. I was so relieved that I began to cry. It was an answer to prayer, a real blessing as there was no way I could have afforded it otherwise.
